Thanks Barry, I've seen these in many period photos but haven't seen a surviving example before. I often wonder how practical the rigid rank straps on a working dress jacket would have been when worn under the Mae West, parachute harness & finally the shoulder straps for a seat harness. And that's before you factor in the rubbing effect on the gilt lace and woollen edges of the boards themselves.
