(1) John and Arch Warren reunite in South Africa in 1901.John Warren served in the 5th contingent NZMR,as well as returning in the 9th ,and later serving in WW1.He died in the influenza epidemic in 1918.His only badge showing is a small NZMR shoulder title.His brother Arch came to South Africa as a groomsman on one of transports.He joined the colonial unit ''Kitcheners Horse''.
(2)Troopers Patrick and Micheal Rabbitt(cousins),pictured at Featherston camp in 1917.Patrick (sitting) wears the badges of the 7th Southland mounted rifles ,while Patrick has the badges of the 5th Hussars.The pugaree on the felt is khaki/green/khaki signifying the NZMR.
(3) A New Zealand trooper in Egypt wearing a Foreign service helmet.
(4) Four troopers of the 42nd Mounted rifles reinforcements.They wear a mixture of high and low tail ''peagasus'' mounted reinforcement cap and collar badges.Circa mid 1918
(5)Sergeant James Hanger,MM wearing 5th Otago Hussars badges.He wears his felt hat lemonsqueezer style.The Otago Mounted rifles,which also included the 7th Southland and 12th Otago squadrons were the only Mounted rifles unit to wear this style ,the others wore the theirs with dented crowns.The OMR were the only NZ mounted rifles to serve on the Western front.Circa late 1918
