The single-piece 1894 pattern RCR badges are known in two finishes, brass, and gilt. While the badge pattern was in use from 1894 to 1926/7, the specific period of use of the single-piece variations has yet to be confirmed. One theory is that they were issued to the 3rd (Special Service) Battalion at Halifax (1900-1902). This has yet to be confirmed by any documentary evidence. They are certainly not a common variation of the 1894 pattern badges.
