Exclamation Update !

I have previously thought that the 'B' prefix found on post 1946 QVC badges stood for Band/Bandsman but while checking on something else I came across this reference in a Branch record :

Quote:
18th September 1952
A Badge and Beret were ordered for the Standard Bearer.
So now I think the 'B' prefix was introduced in 1952 to differentiate between the hat ('H') badges worn by bandsmen/parking etc and the Beret ('B') badges that were to be used by Standard Bearers.

NB: The use of prefix letters was introduced by Gaunt post 1946 and different letters were used to indicate the type of item (badge/pin/cufflinks etc) and also the various types of fitting (buttonhole/vertical pin/horizontal pin).
