The replacement battalions consisted of the replacement companies.
This many were needed as the CAPF had to have large numbers of trained soldiers immediately in-theatre. They didn't have the luxury of the European campaign of having Reinforcement Units close-by in the UK.
I wouldn't put too much credence into a contemporary newspaper article as gospel n the issuance and wear of the CAPF patch. "Distinguishing Patches" quotes the actual Routine Order which describes three ways of wearing the patch: full size; half-size on another formation patch, and; half-size worn by itself. Each style had its own qualifying criteria.
