A super image, Ron, thank you for posting it. The fact of dyeing white drill jackets intrigued me. The Germans were the world’s masters of colour fast dyes at that time, so in upper Silesia I imagine that the battalion could source a good product. More than that, though, the Sergeant Tailor has done a masterful job in somehow adding gauntlet cuffs, and on the drum major at list a stiffened and fully piped collar. As neither were usually fitted to white drill jackets he had quite a job on his hands, especially given the different weights of material that was likely concerned in that process.
