Private Arthur (Nick) Carter, King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Served from 1901 to 1951. Saw active service in the Boer War and the Great War. Awarded 10 Good Conduct Stripes. According to the Light Infantry website, the most ever awarded in the British Army. After his discharge he lived in a rented room across from the barracks.
