I wish that I'd seen it!
The interesting point is that to produce this badge the lettering would be
raised in the die so it is NOT the standard badge as this has
incuse lettering which is serifed and this is plain.
It would be nice to know what the reverse was like and what the maker's mark was.
I'm going to postulate that this is an early variant with the blue outer following on from the 1914 Admiralty pattern. That or it is another way to indicate seniority/ greater skills within the factory/ production line.
