This is the membership badge of the Women,s Aviation Association and was in use from 1939 right until the organization was absorbed into the Aeroclub of SA. It was used as a lapel pin and as a badge on the side of the pre-war WAA garrison cap.
The rare one has WAAF on, rather than WAA, and was used for a short period when they were mobilized for the war as the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, until their UDF pattern uniforms and insignia were introduced.
