...just a few (some very minor) items of mine...the British-made slouch hat has never had a badge applied on the brim...the Third Division, while they were commanded by Monash, were not allowed to wear the brim raised up on the left - an order that he rescinded in March 1918 when he became the Corps Commander and which he makes comment about in his post-war book: ANZAC to Amiens...this hat could be just such an example...I have over 1000 sepia, studio-portrait, photographs - hours of endless analysis to be made, there - in which less than a third of the slouch hats being worn are wearing the pleated pugaree which is to say that most of the A.I.F. wore either a piece of puttee or just wool-felt outside of the hat...(8{
