Thanks for your replies, not sure why you can't see the photo, I can see it in the thread.
The man is George Majo (my 2 x Great-grandfather) 1859 - 1939, I presume the 3 chevrons make him a sejeant and the star above that a colour or staff serjeant?
He lived in Salford, Lancashire all his life.
