There are two small confusions running through this thread:-
1. In 1920, under Army Order 142, the rank of bombardier was upgraded to replace that of corporal, the latter rank being abolished in the Gunners. In the same year the appointment of acting bombardier was changed to that of lance bombardier, both these appts wear a single chevron.
Thus the NCO sporting pilot wings is a bombardier.
2. In 1938 throughout the Gunners the term Brigade was dropped for a Lt Col’s command in favour of Regiment (as it is today), 4th Fd Bde becoming 4th Fd
Regt on 11 May.
The Nowshera Brigade of all arms (as today), in the 1930s was commanded by
Brigadier Harold Alexander, late Irish Guards, to become FM Lord Alexander
of Tunis.
