I reckon Leigh has probably got it, scarlet flame over khaki ball of the bomber's grenade.
I did wonder if it were a dark circle representing brigade or battalion, with a rectangle of company colour below but I think all the Scottish Rifles battalions wore various shapes of Douglas tartan.
