Hey Tony, those type of belts were on issue to us in the Australian Army during the 1970s as part of the M1956 pattern of webbing which had begun to be issued to us during the 1960s, purchased from the USA I believe.

That particular pattern of belt was useless, after a little wear the eyelets began to pull up through the horizontal webbing of the belt. Another type of belt in which the web ran vertically was a much better wearing item, I think mine's still floating around downstairs, and that got a fair bit of use, in and out of the service.
