Besides badges to Maltese regiments, I have a modest collection of medals to Maltese personnel, being army or navy. Prior to 1929, naval service records were quite straight forward, however coming 1930's the Admiralty just made it a tad more complicated to interpret.
So just to compress what has been stated: he would have served on the ship in (brackets) which would have in turn served the ship on the left hand side?!
Yes most Royal Navy service records which I have researched stopped entries in 1941 and some just earlier. Entries were then entered after 1945! Reason I would not know!! Discharge dates have been seen at the front of the record but also at the back.
Re HMS Colossus, that was my initial thought, but Colossus was scrapped in 1928 according to Wikipedia, while here it's 1938??? Need to have a look at the Med Fleet in 1938.
