The British officer's badges I have seen, although bronze, are generally cast and quite heavy, with tangs instead of lugs or pins. Of course, I've seen enough exceptions to the rules to know one can't make sweeping general statements on badges! A good example of this is that RND badges must have Gaunt plates - of my four RND badges only one has a Gaunt plate, two more I am quite certain are originals but without maker's marks and the fourth (which has a Gaunt plate but of a less common style) is on my "uncertain" list...
