I have several CEF badges with identical brooch fittings. These fittings were most likely added to replace broken lugs and I think the style is fairly contemporary to the badges - that is, added during or shortly after the war. In my opinion they are a good indication of original badges (or else fakers have gotten so cunning they now add fake repairs to fake badges...doesn't bear thinking about
