If I can weigh in on the iterations of the naval officers cap badge since Unification. In the green uniform, all naval ops personnel used the style of badge seen in the very first photo posted. Ratings (now known by the Godawful nomenclature of non-commissioned members) wore this in a metal version while all officers were essentially required to purchase a cloth embroidered version pretty much identical to the Scully one (4th), but with a gold anchor. When we returned to blue uniforms, officers kept using the same badge on their white caps, but around 89 a new cloth issue badge was developed using a silver anchor. Many officers opted to continue wearing the old embroidered badge and just painted the anchor silver. Eventually, Scully started making them with a silver anchor. Unfortunately, since that time, most new officers have taken the path of least resistance and opted to wear the pusser issue badge which I will attach to show really what poor quality it is. The 3rd picture in the original post shows the smaller embroidered beret badge that is also sold optionally.
