Can I please confirm the terminology being used with regard to this badge?

If it is 'gilt' my understanding is that it is an officers' badge- it should not have a slider. Gilt is a metallic layer applied over a base metal badge to produce the high gloss finish. Gilt can often be ascertained as the reverse either shows where the gilt layer was applied, or where the gilt layer has worn off leaving a brighter reverse.

If is an Other Ranks badge, with a slider, and maker marked them I would call that Gilding Metal (GM) with is a brass alloy and needs polishing to achieve a high shine finish.
