Hello Roy

Another lovely button for your collection.

I have no documentary evidence but from a study of backmarks I believe the crown and wreath device was used by Hammond, Turner & Dickinson in the period 1800-1820. During this same period they also used their own name as a backmark, sometimes with a crown, sometimes without but the backmark you have also appears to have been theirs during this time. As with most backmarks details, there appears to be no specific reason for the use of different marks over a broadly similar time period.

The same crown and wreath device also appears to have been used by the same firm some years later in its existence when it was known as Hammond, Turner & Sons.
