Musketry Instructor - TA ?
This inter-war photo has intrigued me for some time as, according to my reading of the sources, the crossed rifles and crown should either be worn on the lower arm if a prize badge or on the upper right arm if a Musketry Instructor.
By chance I stumbled across what may be an answer but am happy to be corrected.
The 1936 Regulations for the Territorial Army state that Permanent Staff Instructors in possession of a Small Arms School certificate serving as Staff Sergeant Instructors will wear three bar chevrons and crossed rifles and crown above the elbow. It adds that With service dress, badges and chevrons will be worn on both arms, an instruction which would appear to explain this photo.
Comments welcome.
