I don't believe that the corps of drums actually had or has anything to do with the 1st CP RVC/ 5th (CP) Bn or the military, other than the fact it may contain ex-service personnel. I understand they would obtain cap badges in the same way a collector might. Photos online indicate silver and enamel badges being worn, which are an entirely different construction, size and shape to that shown in the OP.
As a point of fact, the Battalion's heritage was continued through 5 Pl., B (Royal Sussex) Company, 3 PWRR.
