This badge landed on my doormat this morning from Ireland. It’s from the same die as the badge Alan showed in post #28 on this thread, which wasn’t warmly received but certainly isn’t one of the standard fakes.
Looking at mine it has all the hallmarks of a good original badge: nice rear detail, good deep striking, good patina/age, nice period slider with a partial crimp. Overall the detail is very good quality. In short if this was a badge to any other WW1 infantry battalion I think very few, if any, would doubt it. It even has a bit of a wrist on the hand of Ulster which lack of is seen on all the fakes.
I’m aware these are a devil of a badge and there’s really only die which has universal acceptance as genuine (post #16), however, in light of this badge, Alan’s and the other attached image from a Bosley’s auction I wonder what members thoughts are on badges from this die?
My personal opinion is they’re genuine.
Cheers,
Luke
