Hi Rob, I have seen collars that are smaller than the cap. If you have a copy of Stewart's OVERSEAS The Lineage and Insignia of the Canadian Expeditionary Force 1914-1918, there is an example of the "smaller" collar on plate 22. The collar shown is non-voided, and only slightly smaller than the cap, but there is a definite difference in size. Charlton's Standard Catalogue of First World War Canadian Infantry Badges also shows a collar of smaller size. Both the examples in Stewart's and Cross's are smaller versions of the standard marguerite pattern badge.
Do you have those? And the measurements for them? Thanks.
