I've seen these embroidered round variations and had always assumed they were modern repros as I've never seen one on any period uniform images to be round. The badges were printed in a roll and using a clock as a guide were folded and sewn 12 to 3, 3 to 6 to 9 and 9 to 12. The booklet 'A Short History of the Wessex Brugade' by the Brigade Colonel - Colonel N. Kendrick DSO - makes no mention of a round variation. No evidence to say they (round) are not right, but the Jury is still out.
