Hi there - the 2nd (Nizam's Own) Imperial Service Lancers martingale is nice and dates from 1893 when the Regt was formed. The HH Guikowars Cavalry is quite intriguing- I think it belongs to the Baroda Princely State Forces. There is a very similar martingale shown in the "Maharajas' Paltans" book - the cypher with the scimitar above is identical - but the words in the strap are "HIS HIGHNESS'S OWN REGIMENT" - it's attributed to the 1st Infantry and is dated to 1877 > 1911. I suspect that your martingale dates from before 1886 - but its worthy of further research. Tim
