I think that the non-voided section on your badge is nothing more than a manufacturing 'error' which seems to have passed inspection unnoticed. I have this exact 'mulit-berry' badge with no non-voided section at this point:

Simon (Longshanks) has a picture of a Norfolk Regiment badge showing large sections unvoided (post #6 in the following thread):

It looks to be the same 'mulit-berry' pattern, so this may well be a manufacturer with quality control issues .
