Further to Magpie's reply, many years ago I was offered an OSD of The Footballers...................................hmmm mm can't remember why I didn't buy it.

Apart from the fact that nothing that I know of or have been informed of supports the belief that these badges were ever produced for service wear; if they had been, they would have been totally impractical.

The ball on stalks would have been toooooo long to sit comfortably on a cap and in fact I suspect the ball would have broken off very soon after being placed on the cap.
