These 'Association/dubious' badges come with a number of lug permutations. North-South, East-West, Offset. In white metal also in gilding metal. Some examples even have sliders as you say. Some examples are cast, others are die-struck.
Certainly - in my experience - the genuine No.2 Commando Officer versions (lacking COMMANDO over the top) have lugs north and south. There may be exceptions as several variants exist.
The Other Ranks badge (plain F S Knife lacking 'S' and 'S' either side of hilt) is lugs North and South.
