The brass one was worn in the cap and it's introduction was just before the beret was introduced. The white metal one followed - possibly produced in a silver metal to stand out on the black beret and this was the one that was replaced by the w/m one with the tank facing the other way. Supposedly the band and depot staff continued to wear caps in the inter war period. What metal this is is unknown. I am wary of heavily polished brass badges as their period of wear should have been short.
