Not intending to sow confusion but perhaps worth a mention I own an example (and have seen others) which is unpierced and with the 1917 strengthening wire.

So ultimately you have a broad church of what you can choose to represent the RA during the 1914-18 period.
Thanks Luke, I am looking for a cap badge that would have been worn by a cadet in the artillery during the dates 14 to 18. He stayed in the uk during this time, and was 16 years old at the end of the First World War.
