Hi BP,
The pocket badge looks to me to be the distinctive unit insignia for the US 27th Infantry Regiment. This regiment was part of the US 25th Infantry Division. It's a wolf's head. Was this individual a member of a unit attached to the 25th? If so that may explain the pin. Try Googling the 27th infantry regiment.
