As an ex fusilier myself we always allowed the hackle to be removable incase it rained......a soaking wet hackle is not a pretty sight......nor is a drowned rat...know what I mean.

Thanks, Mike.....I believe anodised badges ( & buttons ) first started to appear as early as 1947 or so but were plentiful by the time of the '53 Coronation.

It's a difficult area and reference...

Badges of rank on 'blues' and tropical 'whites' have a coloured backing in the facing colour of the regiment.

This colour is red for 'Royal' regiments, white for non-Royal English and Welsh...

On St Georges Day 1968 the the facings for all the regiments that constituted the new Regiment changed to blue...
