Orange backed SAS wing

Picked this up recently .. At first I thought it might be faded scarlet but its not, its orange - was described as a NZ officers wing but any ideas why it would have a orange backing ?

I have heard that a metal badge was worn in Malaya on one parade at least and 22 wore a bi metal badge on maroon berets for the coronation .. does any one have more info on this ?

Interesting ... Its shown on page 19 of Pittways book on the Rhodesian SAS , so I guess thats where the Rhodesians got theirs from but am still wondering if it was ever worn by 22 or one of the TA...

I showed this to a SBS mate of mine a few years...

I showed this to a SBS mate of mine a few years back - He had never seen it and had no idea what it was . Before the new badge they just wore RM badges, only difference being the wings ....

yes I have been told that this is a 2nd issue sand beret - the 1st issue all made by Herbert Johnston... but certaily one of the first ....I am trying to find out the name of the British...
