The pattern with the scroll was actually in wear prior to WW1 but not common we know this as a few period photos...

I would echo Alanís comments. If new to the hobby V.B.ís are not perhaps the best starting place since genuine badges are few, fakery prolific and mistakes expensive.

Era of the badge pictured is post 1970s fake sadly.

Genuine ones were never solid centre.

The badge was briefly struck in GM in the 1920s before WM became standard and was worn until after WW2.
