An interesting star. The straight lines on the the St Andrew's cross are missing and, as you say, an early version - or possibly Royal Scots?
For the Royal Scots, the 1900 Dress Regs...

The early stars, pre WW1 and possibly during the war, were, I think, different from those that came later. The tips are made up of five diamond cuts not three, making them more pointed in...

That looks like the East Surrey badge in the Maker's Marks album and is very similar to the mark on the 12th Lancers badge that includes "Late Jennens" in the same album. So from the mid 1920's, if...

Thanks Tony
Do you think these might be 14th Hussars pre 1915?
Or are you sure they are 14th/20th? I've never seen these before.
I'd like to know what you think of the FSH badge I posted.
Cheers...

Hi Tony
Do you have a better picture of the front of the Gaunt bronze badge please?
Is it definitely bronze or japanned black and what length are the loops?
And is the Gaunt stamp an early one?...

A very interesting post, particularly the mention of enamel badges being worn by warrant officers and officers. How many posts are there on the Forum of these being fake badges and never worn?

It is odd.
The example I have is a 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards with blades replaced by a brooch pin.
Were any officers' Field Service Cap badges ever fitted with blades rather than loops?

Gilding of bronze OSDs

Have other members come across OSD badges that have been gilded, presumably to make "sweetheart" brooches?

If so, how can the gilding be removed, or even should it be?
