a friend of mine has found this photograph.
The picture was taken in Mhow, India.

Maybe a Machine Gun Corps Corporal (pre-1922) ?
The pith helmet has MGC on a patch...

Raised 23/8/1862 in Alessandria (that's an italian town in Piedmont, not the egyptian city).
Fought in the 3rd Italian indipendence war (1866) against Austria....

Yes, this is an italian navy submarines crews badge (OR and NCO).
It was worn on the left sleeve.
It was instituted Jan. 16th 1918.

This kind of badge was still in use after WW2.

The reason of th question is: a friend has found a rifle green beret with a (wrong) KC 9th gurkha badge and a red cloth backing.

Could be a beret for a QUARANC...
