i am no expert and it may have been worn as a cap badge however the general consensus is that lugged badges (like yours) are collars and the badges made with prongs are cap badges

IMO there was only one 100% genuine badge and that had no lugs.
the others needed heaps of provenance

it was my understanding there wasnt, but these sold for over $1000.
they look Australian in style and lug.
