Dating duty arm badges and if Specials or not

Any tips on how to date duty arm bands? I know ww1 Special Constabulary bands stand out due to being printed, or having badges attached, and that more modern ones might be given away by the material...

Port of London Aurtority star cap badge.

Good Morning,
Re the star cap badge for the port of London police. Did they wear an blue ring for senior officers, and plain chrome for other ranks?
