As far as I know, the only countries with a Survey Corps were Australia and Russia. And these are definitely not Russian!
Great badge, another one for the wish list.

Unfortunately I don't have any of these badges, and this was the first time I'd ever seen them. They were part of an auction lot of medical badges which sold for about 800 pounds in 2008, which I...

Engineers? Artillery? Medical??

These look like artillery or engineer collar badges, but they all have a cross on them. I'm assuming they're British. Are they badges of a medical branch within that corps? I'd be most grateful for...

Just downloaded my copy - what a fantastic reference!
I've always been interested in the subtle variations between manufacturers, production runs etc. This is one of the few reference works which...

A medical badge? Or something with a cross?

This badge looked medical enough to spend my money on. The seller didn't know what it was, but suggested it may be Scottish??
It's about 45mm wide, looks to be made of cast white metal, with the...

There's an RMC badge listed by the same seller that I thought looked OK, but having now seen the other items offered by this seller, I think I'll give it a miss.

Opinion on some items from Brisbane

Maybe the Bulgarian badge sellers have made me suspicious of everything (or just paranoid....)
There are 2 that caught my eye on Feebay today:
An RMC badge with a lug attached over the maker's mark...

Dodgy French seller?

A French seller with zero feedback has posted a few dodgy-looking badges, which unfortunately already have a few bids.
The worst is the large Engineers hat badge, item 281467932327.
Maybe this is...

I'd agree with Graham - a serviette ring from an Officers' Mess. It's customary for a departing officer to present a gift to the Mess on being posted out - this was possibly such a gift.

Date For Cossum's New Books?

Does anyone have even a vague idea when the new edition of Cossum's references will be released?
The current editions seem to sell for about $100 per volume, and there's a bookseller in Perth...

No idea, haven't seen this one before either.
I'd guess a non-military nurse or red cross fob badge.

I've looked through both of my reference books on Duntroon, and deplorably there's nothing about the evolution of the badge.

As far as I know, it was just cadet units and the Army Apprentice School who wore a khaki beret. Most corps wore the dark blue general service beret. Infantry wore rifle green, buckets wore black,...

Here's another seller from Bulgaria. To his credit he's posting high-resolution images of the badges, so must be confident of his workmanship. Despite this he already has a few suckers bidding on...

I was (fortunately) outbid on an RMC cap badge from this seller. Apart from the lugs being a bit rough, it looked genuine enough to sell for over $50. It even had "STOKES MELB" stamped on the back.

RMC lapel badge

The RMC lapel badges were an issued item - I was issued one in 1985 (pictured). These were worn with our "recreation dress" (RMC blazer) and as a lapel badge on a suit or jacket when in civvies....

My concern is with the positioning of the lugs. Genuine badges made using proper jigs will have the lugs fixed symmetrically, whereas restrikes done by hand usually have misaligned lugs.

No, it's definitely not a screw post. The attached pics give a better view. It's a thin-walled hollow metal rod brazed to the back of the badge. I've never encountered this on other badges - only...
