Those appear to be post production enhancements....

Those appear to be post production enhancements. Some CEF badges are voided, but the 2nd, 159th and Northern Pioneers were not made in that manner.

The pin is a patriotic / sweetheart type piece, not an authorized military badge. The badge on the pin is Army Service Corps.

Edwards and Langley identify the badge as Badge for Good Shooting Volunteers. Two stars were for different scores depending on the 1861 or later, 1881 criteria.
