I have had estates from OR vets of the Canadian Parachute Battalion where they are in photos wearing silver-guilt officer's badges. I've got
pictures of officers wearing the OR's badges. I have had...

BRONZE

The RFC badge is a "coloured" or darkened brass. The RAF badge is BRONZE the definition being "a yellowish-brown alloy of copper with up to one-third tin." This is not a dirty YELLOW BRASS badge....

Technically WWI Period OR's Royal Air Force Bronze Cap Badge

I noted a post on here from 2014 where a member asked if there was anyway
to tell if a Metal OR's RAF badge was WWI "period" or not. He was told there
was no WWI "period" metal "version" of the...

Badges and insignia

From my experience badges and insignia were indeed important and a means to maintain esprit de corps etc. I also know that the winged bullet badge came about due to gripes from those who were air...

Photographer

Yes it is a very confusing question. I have a group of medals to a fellow who was a 1AM and was not originally in a flying role. They tried him out as an airgunner and was later told to wear the...

RFC Question PHOTOGRAPHERS

Did the Royal Flying Corps or British Army, for that sake, have a
trade badge for photographers 1914-1918?

If not, did flying photographers in reconnaissance squadrons
qualify to wear the...

Points to be made? Made before?

I have been going through this thread with interest as it is exactly what collectors need to discern, or at least to be safe, in acquiring original examples as well as to catalogue suspected...

AIRBORNE

I am certain the AIRBORNE's are post-war/repros. The lettering on the PARACHUTE titles in the box appears to be too close together and not indicative
of any authentic examples I have seen. I am also...

Nutter price or ???? Airborne Auction Lot

I was recently watching the auction for this lot and was a bit taken aback to see
what was paid for this stuff as we head into a global recession. It is not so much the price but the questioned...

Hi guys

I recently acquired an interesting set of medals and was wondering if you can help me understand what sort of insignia would have been worn by a British officer in the following units......

Not your typical trade badge

There were investigations into printed parachute badges. There was even a suggestion to make a printed version of the Canadian badge. However it was realized almost instantly that no one wanted to...

The weaves were changed during the war in order to offset issues that arose in the quality of printing on coarse weave material. It was thought that it would be easier to print smaller details on the...

Another Copy 1CPB Cap Badge

Here's another copy of the brass Cdn Para Corps badge. They are very crafty with their presentation. Cutting the lugs off and adding the soldered pin. The problem is, originals DO NOT HAVE POCK MARKS...

GM Beret

It actually looks like the maroon die went into the lining or the entire beret was
thrown into a vat of die. Interesting.

Officer?

No, you are correct, it is likely an OR with an Officers cap badge while walking out. I have an Officers badge from a Private in the Battalion so it makes sense.

Thanks for pointing that out.

This is a photo of Major Hilborn (right) of the 1st CPB - Note how the badge he is wearing droops forward. If you follow the line where the material of the beret
bends with where the lugs of the...

Embroidered Officers Badge

Hi Paul

From what I have been able to find out, it was likely a one off badge for Eadie. No others are known. As stated, these could be made while you wait. It may have also been a gift to him.
