All I know about the 3/1st is as follows; Raised in June 1917, Between 1918-19 it was in Baluchistan at Fort Sandeman and Quetta, at some point in 1919 it was involved in the Third Afghan war....

I don't believe this is for the 2nd Gurkha Rifles. The PoW feathers was also worn by other regiments. The ones wore by the 2nd Gurkha Rifles in Mess dress, the Ich Dien Scrolls extended out either...

The design is for 154 (Gurkha) Parachute Battalion worn from 1943-45..
However it should be white on a rifle green backing so IMO its duff. Lots of copies of both 153 and 154 around.

There is one shown in Colin Carnalls book 'Redcap Insignia and collectables' He just lists it as an oddment. The one in the book is cast brass with cast flat 'indian' lugs.
