Some nice badges there Billy. There also exists light copper and brown variations. I was always led to believe that the more unusual colour AAC badges were simply oddities, made to avoid waste.

I think you'll find that the lugs are original and have been re-attached at some point. They are near identical to those I have on a pair of collar badges gifted to me by a former glider pilot...

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that WM collar badge at all!. Remember, there are footed lugs, and there are size 10 footed lugs, i.e. those you refer to as "infamous"
