Thanks for that. Any clues as to the purple one? Being a relatively large area of enamel, they often turn up in less than perfect condition.

Hi Mel

A nice grouping there. I've seen similar badges (but not with this wording) with white and purple enamel.

Two for one deal!

As promised here is the photo I was sent a year or two back. It combines an SWB with a badge for the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association.

Hi Mike

I knew I could count on you for an answer!

I think the appellation "rare" gets bandied about by anyone who hopes that the potential buyer will be snared by this!

We have a local...

1915 OWS modified

Just acquired this 1915 badge. OK, nothing special here, despite the fact that many hopeful sellers like to talk these up as "a rare badge"....;)

What caught my eye was the rather brutal way it...

A new look for an old favourite?

Hi all

Here is that "altered" SWB I mentioned in a previous post. In my mind I had the colours reversed (i.e. blue outer, red inner) but it is still interesting to see how the SWB was adapted.

Hi Mike

Yes, my comment was partly made in jest...:D

Thinking on it further, I imagine that the SWB was, in the immediate post-war period, the most visible symbol of a returned man (or woman)...

Hi Leigh

Quite possible but given that they dished out umpteen thousand of them it could have been a way of saving on badges for membership!

Scottish Federation of Discharged Soldiers & Sailors

I thought that I should post this photo also as it clearly uses elements in common with the Paisley badge.

I have both pinback (as this example is) and "half moon" fitting. In the case of the...

Any clues?

Hi

Following my post with the "artistic" arrangement of assorted veteran's association badges that (mostly) pre-date the formation of the British Legion, I decided to pick out three of the ones...

All roads lead to the Legion!

Hi Terry

Thanks for your message. Incredible to think that all these associations could exist but maybe that is human nature!

Clearly some were much larger than others, such as the Comrades.

British Legion and "friends"!

Hi Mike

This talk of the Comrades caused me to go through the collection of the "others".

While some may have co-existed alongside the Legion, many would have come and gone by the time it came...
