I have a smaller version, KC, all gilt metal, one piece with a silver crown base, very well made.

I assumed it was for the beret. If so what RAF officers in WW2 wore a beret? RAF Regiment?

He didnt specifically make one regiment he made HUNDREDS, virtually all of which were other ranks badges, one piece, white metal colour and stamped SILVER. Dont know if he made a cap star like this....

The more modern fake 'SILVER' marked badges referred to above were by 'Badgeman' off ebay who no longer seems to...

I find that any silver badge that is stamped 'SILVER' rather than hall marked is usually more modern than old.

I would suggest the latter half of the 20th Century.

Dave, I saw an Ashton under Lyne one on ebay...

Dave,

I saw an Ashton under Lyne one on ebay a few weeks ago which was clearly a police collar badge on the grenade.

I looked at many of the other similar ones he was selling and saw every one...
