The backing plate would be Gilt and not GM and please be aware that the plates were individually made and you would be unlikely to line up the holes in the star with the rear fittings on the wreath....

Usually lead fixed wires or the like.

They are knocking out fake rosettes so maybe its just another part of all that nonsense.
