maroon badges are worn on maroon beret and side caps (although I have seen them worn on blue beret).

Yours is tatty so I assume a beret.

3 Armd Fd Amb certainly wore something very similar in the early 1980s - I cannot remember if the other BAOR Fd Ambs also wore them.

I think a maroon one was worn too similar to the blue one - but...
