He served on HMS Glenroy (landing ship) during Operation Neptune and then HMS Eaglet which was a DEMS training establishment.

There is still no evidenced based reference material to indicated that these badges were expressly made for and only used by tunnellers.
They are simply large size NZ Engineers badges.
