Just reread this post, my mistake, I thought you were referring to officers collar badges not being of this pattern but you meant that this upright "cap badge design" wasn't worn by officers or ORs...

I have these two badges, the one retaining both lugs retains its gilded finish other than on highlights of the flames (and appears to be "the same" as yours, the other's lost most of it.
